What are MEPCO peak hours?

MEPCO peak hours are a four-hour evening window in which electricity is charged at the higher peak rate on TOU (Time of Use) meters. The window shifts with the season — later in summer, earlier in winter — and is set by NEPRA notification, so it can be revised. The remaining 20 hours of the day are off-peak. Your own TOU bill prints peak and off-peak units separately, which is the reliable way to see how the split applies to your meter.

Do peak hours apply to every MEPCO consumer?

No. Peak and off-peak rates apply only to consumers with a TOU (Time of Use) meter, which NEPRA requires at or above a 5 kW sanctioned load. If you have an ordinary single-reading domestic meter, your bill is calculated on slab rates and the peak window does not affect it.

What is the current MEPCO per-unit rate?

MEPCO's per-unit rate depends on your tariff category and how many units you consumed in the month. Domestic (A-1) consumers are billed on slabs, so the rate rises as consumption crosses each slab, and commercial, agricultural and industrial categories have their own rates. The tables on this page list the current rates, and your bill shows exactly which slab and rate were applied to you.

Who decides MEPCO electricity rates?

Rates are determined and notified by NEPRA (National Electric Power Regulatory Authority), not by MEPCO itself. MEPCO applies the notified tariff, along with government taxes, fuel price adjustment and other approved surcharges, to each consumer's bill.

MEPCO Peak Hours & Off-Peak Hours

Peak and off-peak rates only apply if you have a TOU (Time of Use) meter — the two-reading meter that NEPRA requires for connections at or above a 5 kW sanctioned load. Domestic consumers on an ordinary single-reading meter are billed on slab rates only, so peak timings do not change their bill.

•It shifts with the season: later in summer, earlier in winter, because sunset moves.
•The remaining 20 hours are off-peak and billed at the lower rate shown in the table above.
•The window is set by NEPRA notification and can be revised, and it is not identical for every DISCO.

⚠️ Do not rely on timings copied from other websites

Different sites publish different MEPCO peak hours — some say 6:30 PM–10:30 PM, others 7:00 PM–11:00 PM in summer and 5:00 PM–9:00 PM or 6:00 PM–10:00 PM in winter. They cannot all be right, and following the wrong one costs you money at peak rates.

The reliable source is your own bill. A TOU bill prints your peak and off-peak units separately, so you can see exactly how the split is being applied to your meter — and your subdivision office can confirm the current notified window in writing.
