MEPCO Solar Net Metering 2026 — Apply, Benefits & How It Works
Solar net metering allows you to install solar panels on your roof, use the electricity you generate, and sell any surplus back to MEPCO. Your meter runs backwards when you export power — reducing or even eliminating your monthly bill.
How Net Metering Works
A bi-directional smart meter is installed at your connection. During daylight hours when your panels generate more than you use, the surplus flows back into the MEPCO grid and is credited to your account at the applicable tariff rate. At night you draw from the grid as normal. Your bill is the difference — or zero if you export enough.

Step-by-Step Application Process
Hire NEPRA-Licensed Solar Company
Your installer must be licensed by NEPRA. Ask for their NEPRA license number before signing any contract.
System Design & Approval
The company designs your system and applies to MEPCO for technical approval (net metering agreement).
Install Solar Panels
Once MEPCO approves the design, installation proceeds. Typical timeline: 3–7 days for residential systems.
Bi-Directional Meter Installation
MEPCO replaces your existing meter with a bi-directional smart meter at no extra cost.
NEPRA DG License
NEPRA issues a Distributed Generation (DG) license in your name. The solar company handles this paperwork.
Start Exporting
Once licensed and connected, your meter starts tracking both import and export. Next bill reflects net usage.
